Well, well, well it has been a long while since I have been with you good old friend called BLOGGER. I missed you. I tried to log in. I turned on my computer I put it on my TO DO List but sadly sleep WON every time or soccer, work, cleaning my house, figuring out what to do for a job next year etc.... basically life.'
But yesterday I went back to one of my schools that I had given out books to 12 students for World Book Night. This was a new thing for my family this year. I saw a blog post about this last year and I immediately got on the mailing list and applied to give books this year.
We were accepted Hooray! So the premise is that you donate 20 books on April 23 (Shakespeare's Birthday) in your application you have to explain and share that you are going to be giving the books to people who need inspiration to become lifelong readers. The books are donated by an outside donor and when you are selected as a book giver you are given a location (book store or library) where you pick up your books (no fee) and then you set up your giving events. You are trying to inspire other to become readers. Since my little ladies are read-aholics (seriously every time they win an award or accomplish a goal they want to go to Barnes and Noble) what happened to Chucky Cheese Please! Anyway! my girls passed out 4 books at school and I took 12 to one of my schools. I worked with the classroom teacher to select the best students for this donation. I added a little carrot, because it is a big AR Accelerated Reader School, I said any one who reads the books and takes an AR quiz and passes with 85% or higher I would buy them a gift card of their choice. So, yesterday I was walking down the hall and the whole class ran up and said 1 person got it she did it. 2 minutes later a happy little girl bouncy down the hall came and exclaimed she was the one. I was so thrilled she did it. She selected Best Buy for her gift card not only did she read it first but she got 100% on the AR quiz. Love It!!!! I can not wait to give her the gift card I am beyond excited that she has worked so hard all year to move to this level and she has not lost steam the last few weeks of school.
I recommend this experience it is a WIN WIN. My little ladies came home and said we decided to donate 2 books to the library and the rest we gave to 2 4th graders. My daughter was so excited that the librarian was so happy. They won because they got to feel to power of giving at such a young age and how some small acts of kindness really have BIG impacts. What is World Book Night? It is a great way to inspire readers and remind yourself of the power giving. AND HERE THEY ARE APRIL 23's WORLD BOOK NIGHT'S NEW READERS!!!! Thank you World BOOK Night !!!!
